Princess of the year by bealor Princess of the year by bealor
I present to you, all the official Disney princesses, in the fashion of the year their representative films premiered.

This took forever, seriously, had to do a lot of research and stuff. But it was really fun to draw :)

Some notes regarding my choices: I went for what could be accurate for the time AND what I think the girls would personally wear. If you don't agree with me that's fine, but remember that our perception of fashion is really personal and it's different around the world (I'm Swedish, so this is how I've seen it).

In case anyone else wonders who they are:
Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel and Merida
The official princess line up.

I love the fashion ideas you chose coinciding with each era. Ariel's outfit is so retro looking. XD
It's funny how it jumps 30 years from 1959 to 1989, isn't it?
And wow is Pocahontas tall, towering over everyone else.

WARNING! Carry on reading! Or you will die, even if you only looked at the word warning!
Once there was a little girl called Clarissa, she was ten-years-old and she lived in a mental
hospital, because she killed her mom and her dad. She got so bad she went to kill all the
staff in the hospital so the More-government decided that best idea was to get rid of her so
they set up a special room to kill her, as humane as possible but it went wrong the
machine they were using went wrong. And she sat there in agony for hours until she died.
Now every week on the day of her death she returns to the person that reads this letter, on
a Monday night at 12:00 a.m. She creeps into your room and kills you slowly, by cutting you
and watching you bleed to death. Now send this to ten other pictures on this one site, and
she will haunt someone else who doesn't. This isn't fake. apparently, if you copy and paste
this to ten comments in the next ten minutes you will have the best day of your life tomorrow. You
will either get kissed or asked out, if you break this chain u will see a little dead girl in you

This was actually pleasant to view. What is funny is how

1960's and the early 1980's, including 1999 to 2008 was left out. I wonder why?

Oh I know we had the Korean Vietnam war during that time including the civil rights riots. Then we have Afghanistan and Iraq during those times.

According to this chart it seems Disney releases "Princess" ideas when war time
is lacking. It also seems they are persist with the white washing of those times. I guess they do this to encourage women to look for men with money in order to make children. Thus these are times when women are reproducing and or after the time when women are being sexualized during times of warfare.

White Washing = is a term from Huckleberry Finn Fence Painting scene. Where he made something look fun that was not fun. Which is what they were doing. AKA white washing.

WWI = 1914-1918
WWII = 1939-1945
Korean-Vietnam War 1950-1953 / 1955-1975
Afghanistan and Iraq 2001-2010 ( even if the Presidency of 2008 marked the end )

NOTE: I am not taking the Desert Storm and smaller conflicts. Like with the US military being loaned out to take down super criminals/targets such as the ones in the news about Africa or related to the Serb Crisis. Even the idea due to the "1972 Oil Crisis" is the soul reason why US military was/is using ammunition from Israel today.

Again very interesting and educational.

Right now seems to be another white washing since 2012 at least. With 80's being pushed as the new retro and thus a reincarnation of the 1950's types. I guess it is hip to be a square.

Forget the pictures, your comment alone is very educational :D   I even got a secondary definition of white washing, I always thought it meant using white actors to portray otherwise foreign characters.

I forget the term for that. Usually Black face is associated with Actors playing other types. Take Boris and Natasha. The idea of an actor is to be able to play any parts deemed necessary irregardless of the role inquired.

It is easy to argue that this is racist because of the idea of lack of actors in the ideal but it could also be because of the vision and the players that are needed.

To be fair, they did really give it a good go with Moana, but she isn't depicted in the picture.  And I've heard whisperings of an uproar that there aren't going to be many Arabian actors in the new live action version of Aladdin.  Though whether that's true or not I can't tell you, but I did see the articles actually looking for Arabian actors for the cast of Aladdin in the beginning.

And about the Aladdin white-washing, that's a big YES and NO.

Their principal cast is all people of color, majority Middle Eastern decent (save for a new token white minor character played by Rapunzel's Prince from Into the Woods), but there have been reports of Disney putting their background actors in brown face and Disney is defending themselves. Their reason makes A LITTLE sense, in that they wanted to be accurate to the Arabian-inspired setting, but they're STILL putting people in brown face. And even if they are background actors that's still not right.

Honestly it is called white washing. Did I mention that in this thread already? White washing because they just need to hire somebody and steal the money of the hard working consumers who will blindly watch the garbage not realizing they are being robbed and taking advantage of by people who could care less.

Oh wait there goes the charity run. There goes the omgsh movie people giving back. Trust me it is one big scam and when somebody makes something great you can not even enjoy it because at some point a person on staff does not deserve to be on staff.

...I feel like your going a tad off base. Disney and other companies like it aren't "stealing money", people are just giving them money. And if it seems like the companies are "manipulating" the masses, that's just business. They need to attract revenue. They're going to make their product look as appealing as possible. They're not gonna be all like "oh hey, we're pretty crappy. But at least we're honest. Come see our movie!" in their ads. Your version of the term "white washing" (which I don't really agree with. "Sugar coating" would be a much better alternative) is just them promoting their business so that they an earn their revenue.

Disney doesn't white wash. Think about where these women came from (where they were in the movies). Disney is historically accurate. Most of these fairy tale originated in European countries, meaning they would be based off of European women, which, during the time periods these movies take place in, are all mostly white.

All of these "princesses" was around the time when there was no war".

Not time for guns but time to forget and program people for the next war.

If people was actually paying attention you would think about what was going on while war was occurring.

It is hip to be a sqaure basically. AKA white washing.

All of those nerds got the money and made the babies AKA us, and the losers are the freedom fighters and the non-yuppies, and people in prisons, to the people who strayed away from society. Think about it. It is all part of the circle of life and problem

But seriously, stop using the term white washing. To quote Inigo Montoya, it doesn't mean what you think it means.

White washing is a practice where characters in a work who are clearly not Caucasian, such as members of an ancient Asian civilization or someone who is clearly identified as Latino, and yet are portrayed by clearly white actors. Industries like Hollywood have a long, proud history of this and you could find any random online video, article or post which rants on various examples, so I won't go into detail here.

When you keep on saying "white washing", you're really talking about "sugar coating". Sugar coating is the practice of works of media hiding, or, less dramatically, making light of serious subject matter. Take for instance December's "The Greatest Showman". It's a fairly light family melodramatic musical very LOOSELY based on a history of ignorance, exploitation and sociopolitical conflicts. "The Greatest Showman" sugar coats the real histories of a lot of its characters for the sake of entertainment. It's true that there's overlap between sugar coating and white washing. To pull from the same example, "Greatest Showman" does both. One of its minor characters is a Russian man posing as Irish. In reality, he was black.

I really hope that you get the difference now, because this is ridiculous and I'd hate to find out my time's been wasted

White Washing and Sugar Coating. Both are white as rice. IDK care how you phrase it.

I say white washing because that is exactly where it comes from "Huckle Berry Finn" and the famous "Painting the fence scene".
Hey it looks fun lets all paint the fence as well. Before you know it your being lead around like a brainwashed person being unable to enjoy the wealth you have earned or the people in your life at all.
